Staying Current: Changes in AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Regulations

Our Electrical Engineers have been busy reading up on the new wiring standard AS /NZS 3000 – 2018 changes that were published on 26 June 2018. There are a few changes from the old 2007 standard. A brief description of the changes can be accessed via the following Standards Australia link https://www.standards.org.au/engagement-events/flagship-projects/wiring-rules/wiring-rules-what-s-changed

We’ve listed a brief summary of some of the important changes:

  • RCD’s shall be provided to protect all circuits in residential installations and all circuits up to 32 A in non-residential installations.
  • There are minor revisions to requirements for access and exit from switch rooms
  • Changes in relation to power supplies in multiple electrical installations

-       New change will impact the calculation of the maximum demand of all buildings as the maximum demand for charging electric vehicles has been included (Appendix P for installation and location of electric vehicle socket outlets and charging stations added).

This list shows some of the important changes in the new revision of the standard. For more information and help in designing your next electrical installation get in touch with us at Haron Robson.

As of December 2025, major Australian airlines have introduced new restrictions on power banks after several in-flight fire incidents linked to lithium batteries. You can still bring a power bank onboard in your carry-on luggage, but you can’t use it during the flight or charge it using the aircraft’s power.
