The Ponds Bridge
Stanhope Parkway
The designer’s brief was to provide an energy efficient, environmentally sensitive, yet highly visible landmark and reference point for
residents and visitors to the area.
Due consideration was given to the colour of the upward light to the pylons, not to have any deterious affect for residents and the
astronomical observatory approximately 12km away. Red light was selected as it is at the opposite end of the spectrum to blue, being the
colour that interferes the most with the view of the night sky.
The pylons are lit with stainless steel IP66 Rated LED luminaires located at the pylon base. Each fixture has red and amber LED’s to
achieve the required colour appearance. Handrails to the bridge are used to house single Warm White LED pucks to light the footpaths and
roadway across the bridge. In ground warm white, wide beam LED uplights are installed to the concrete blockouts to light the approach
signage walls.
