It’s that time of year again, and excitement is building here at Haron Robson HQ for this winter’s VIVID Sydney festival. In its fifth year and with the program almost tripling in size, VIVID 2013 is set to be the biggest and best yet!

Running from 24th May until 10th June, VIVID Sydney is a celebration of light, music and ideas, transforming the city after dark into a canvas of colour and illumination, with ‘lights on’ every night from 6 – 12pm. VIVID features light displays, family events, music performances and creative-industry workshops & seminars. The lighting section of the festival, VIVID Light, will this year include the longest ever Light Walk, with interactive light installations, illuminated skyscrapers and large-scale 3D mapped projections along the city’s foreshore, from The Rocks through Circular Quay to Walsh Bay, this year extending for the first time to Darling Harbour, Fort Denison and the Inner West.

The Light Walk promises to be a truly international blend of creative design and technology, with more than 60 immersive light installations from over 150 artists, the sculptures selected from around the world including Germany, England, Italy, France, USA, Korea, Malaysia and New Zealand. Australians feature from Sydney, Queensland, Victoria and regional NSW including Nowra, Wagga Wagga and Tuggerah.

With installations and projections in the last two years’ festivals, including numerous award wins for their VIVID sculptures and façade illuminations, the Haron Robson lighting design team are looking forward to enjoying the experience purely as spectators, having decided to sit-out this years’ event in the pursuit of other creative projects. Future VIVIDs are in their sights though, and the drawing boards are already awash with ideas and inspiration.
